Inspect And Treat: How To Overcome A Bed Bug Situation
Bed bugs are one of the worst pests you could possibly find in the home for several reasons. Unlike some pests, they survive and thrive by consuming human blood. They're not attracted to food crumbs left on the table or on the floor. Instead, they are attracted to the warm body of a human or animal that they can feast on. Aside from biting people, bed bugs are notorious for being difficult to get rid of. There are a lot of treatments that simply don't work. Even so, there are ways to eradicate them, even if it takes time.
Go on a Search For the Infestation
If you'd like to tackle the problem immediately, grab a flashlight and start looking around the room for the infestation. You may have spotted a bug or two in your bed, but are not exactly sure where they're coming from. Remove the sheet from your bed and look between the seams of your mattress. You may be able to find several bed bugs hanging out in there.
If you've got a bed frame with a box spring, carefully inspect it with your flashlight. Take a look around at all the different cracks and crevices in and around your bedroom because that is where the bed bugs might be hiding. Sometimes it's easy to spot them if the infestation is already out of control, but sometimes it's hard to find them in the beginning. It's important to remember that they aren't just found on beds. In fact, they may be found anywhere in the home, including in your closet, on the floor, and on the couch.
Even if you don't see the presence of live bed bugs, look out for black specks and brown exoskeletons. The black specks are feces left from these pests, and the exoskeletons are often shed by the bugs as they continue growing into adulthood. Once you've found the infestation, you can focus on controlling the situation.
Take the Right Steps to Eradicate the Bugs
There are many steps that you'll need to take to completely remove these bugs from your home. Unfortunately, these steps will require a lot of work and effort, but it's important to follow them correctly so that you can get rid of this major problem. If you're not handling the situation correctly, the bugs will spread out and continue to reproduce, making it even more difficult to remove them.
Go through everything you own. Start getting rid of the clutter. It's easier for the bed bugs to hide out if you've got a pile of different things in your home. Trash the stuff you don't need and wash the stuff you plan on keeping. Most of the stuff in your home can get thrown into the washing machine, such as clothes, table linen, and even stuffed animals. Wash it all, and keep it in a storage container or sealed bag until after the pest control treatment is complete.
Washing your stuff may help you get rid of some of the bed bugs, but you'll need to follow through with an aggressive pest control treatment if you're looking to completely kill them off. It's not wise to follow a do-it-yourself approach when dealing with this type of problem because many of the products sold at home improvement stores are not effective on these pests.
You'd need to call a pest control company and talk to them directly about your problem. They may offer several treatment options, including a heat treatment that dries the bugs out as well as a pesticide treatment that would need to be performed once every other week until there were no longer any signs of bed bugs living inside your home. The most effective treatments are those that are performed by an experienced pest control team.
An infestation of bed bugs can be difficult to manage. If you've spotted a few of these bugs in your home, you'll need to look out for the infestation in different rooms and then focus on a treatment plan. If action isn't taken, this problem will not go away on its own. The pests will only continue reproducing and spreading throughout the home. However, a pest control company could focus on helping you out with this serious and frustrating problem.
